We will continue to partner with the Share the Road cycling coalition, to help promote advocacy for cycling in Ontario. Together we will be working to help increase awareness with the goal of promoting all of the benefits of cycling and increasing safety on our roads.
The Share the Road Cycle Sportif was created in the tradition of Sportive which dates back over 500 years, beginning as a walking event and progressing to cycling. Cyclesportives are held in scenic regions around the world.
Share the Road cycling coalition is an Ontario based cycling advocacy organization with a vision of making our province the most bicycle friendly place in the world.
Marrying Cycle Sportif with Share the Road in the beautiful setting of the Blue Mountains with proceeds going to support Share the Road, will be a great benefit for our cycling community and a eagerly anticipated, challenging and fun experience for all those involved.
The event will start in the events plaza in the centre of Blue Mountain Village and head out for a challenging 54.7km ride through the Blue Mountains with a finish back at the Events Plaza. Cyclists will have right of way throughout the entire course as traffic will be managed by over 20 OPP officers as well as many road marshals. There will be a feed station on the course where neutral support will be available for all cyclists. Support vehicles will accompany the cyclists in a caravan which will include; lead vehicles, mechanical support, race officials, first responder and a SAG wagon following behind to support and pick up any riders who are unable to make it back to the village. The event will be timed; check the event website for more information about the event.
Specific event details are still being worked out, stay tuned for updates.
